OSR #1 - The Best Antioxidant On The Planet..
Enter OSR#1 (N1, N3-bis(2-mercaptoethyl)isophthalamide):
Dr Haley has emphatically stated over the past few years that the chemical detoxifying agents BAL, DMPS and DMSA are old, crude ahd harmful. Think about the 'bull in the china shop' picture. They are rough and uncontrollable and it would take you about five minutes on the internet to find people who have become much sicker through their use. Sure, some have improved, but in my opinion that is sheer dumb luck!
Let's just take a step back for a minute. What ARE free radicals (ROS - Reactive Oxygen Species) and why are antioxidants necessary?
Detoxification, aging, cancer and many other detrimental processes within our bodies have one very large factor in common. Oxidation ..or the mass production of free radicals.
Essentially in nature, the electrons which spin around the nucleus of an atom or molecule (group of atoms) need to have their "balance". They live in harmony when they live in pairs..and they constantly seek this existence. Therefore when they are solitary....they zip around..looking for and stealing electrons indiscriminatly from any other molecule or structure it can find, to bring itself back to balance.
Just visualize these free radicals careening off your cells' components and walls..literally "burning" them..changing the structures' chemistry..and creating even MORE free radicals!
Picture this...if you had a line-up of people, each with an apple in their hand..the only food they had and someone came to the top of the line and stole the first person's (let's call him Jones') apple, he'd then turn and steal from Smith, who'd then turn and steal from Brown, who'd then turn and steal from Green, etc, etc, all the way down the line. What we need is a farmer ( an antioxidant) who comes and places an apple in the one empty hand to stop the cascade of events and bring everything back to harmony.
That is essentially what is going on in free radical propagation and damage..a process called "Oxidation" and why we need "Antioxidants" or those substances which stop the madness. When this type of damage occurs in your DNA for example, the end result is often mutations or serious changes in the DNA which replicate themselves to become cancer, possibly. Again this emphasizes the need for antioxidants.
Free radicals even damage cellular proteins..many of which are enzymes which control your body's functions..to allow it to perform at its best..and now these enzymes become either weakened or destroyed altogether. Because of this,if this process is allowed to carry on for a long time, chronic diseases of aging set in or in this case damage to the nervous system leading to autism, mercury poisoning symptoms, etc. That's what's going on.
As I mentioned above, in the scheme of things, Nature has depended on our food to supply the antioxidants we need to combat this whole process. And, boy that's where we run into trouble. Add to that, we were never intended to have something as toxic as mercury implanted into our heads or injected directly into our blood streams.
So what is needed is the motherlode of antioxidants. Something which is fat soluble, i.e. can get into the cells and stay there and had a very high ORAC level.
ORAC is Oxygen Radical Acceptance Capacity. In other words, just how strong an antioxidant is depends on what volume of free radicals it can squelch and terminate their chaotic effects on our tissues. Below is a chart from CTI Science Web Site showing the relative ORAC values of some foods and OSR#1

As you can clearly see, OSR#1 is HUGELY better than any other antioxidant found in food. Acai is the closest, but again, far behind OSR#1. And, OSR#1, unlike most antioxidants is fat soluble.
Just what do I mean by fat soluble or water soluble..and why is it important? Substances which are water soluble don't tend to stay around in our bodies very long. They are normally metabolized and excreted within a day or so. Therefore, most antioxidants which are water soluble sort of 'come and go' very quickly.
However, OSR#1 is fat soluble meaning it can store in our cells and do a much greater amount of work helping us be well and function properly. Also, our cells' membranes are to a large extent made of fatty tissues and so many antioxidants can't get inside to do the work we need done. This is not a problem for OSR#1.
Dr. Haley and the people at CTI Sciences do not make any claim for ORS#1 with respect to health, but one only has to
understand the worth of an antioxidant such as this in sparing our body's glutathione so it can detox mercury and other toxic substances to see how important it is to a good working protocol for natural mercury detox.
Here is a fact sheet on OSR#1 with respect to it's safety and how it works:
